On a particularly moving anniversary, Lincolnshire’s Laura Coleman-Day intends to participate in the London Marathon clad in her wedding gown. This marks the six-year anniversary of her wedding to her late husband, Xander. This emotionally charged event is also her 13th marathon in a year – a bid to raise money for blood cancer research. Laura’s husband, who served as an RAF aerospace battle manager, tragically succumbed to complications following his fight with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Resolved to support the cause, Laura has been tirelessly fundraising for the Anthony Nolan charity. This charity is deeply involved in blood cancer and stem cell research. Running alongside her is her friend Kate Walford hailing from Guernsey. Kate also runs in remembrance of a close friend who fell victim to leukaemia. These two, interconnected through their cause and personal grief, plan on making a meaningful pitstop at the 23-mile mark to put on Laura’s wedding gown.
Despite the clear challenges, Laura continues to maintain her passion for this distinctive homage to her husband and their shared cause. At the same time, this strenuous experience has resulted in a strong companionship with Kate.
