A Grimsby Institute student is preparing to compete on the international stage after being selected to represent England at a major karate championship.
Seventeen-year-old William Jervis has earned a place at the 2025 Senior European Championships, organised by the World Karate Federation. The event will take place this May in Yerevan, Armenia.
William, who is studying on the Foundations programme at the Grimsby Institute, will compete in the male ‘Para Kata’ category. Kata is a choreographed sequence of movements and techniques designed to represent a fight. Impressively, William is the only person from England chosen to compete in this category.
Speaking about his achievement, William said:
“I am so proud of myself for being selected to represent England. I cannot wait to go to the Senior European Championships, and I am going to smash it out of the park!”
Sally Wright, Inclusion Manager at the Grimsby Institute, shared her support:
“The Grimsby Institute is immensely proud of William and wishes him the best of luck on the international stage. We are confident that he will make both the Grimsby Institute and the country proud.”
The Senior European Championships will provide a prestigious platform for William to showcase the dedication, hard work and passion he brings to his sport.
