New Pelvic Health Midwife Aims to Break Silence on Postpartum Issues

NHS Humber Health Partnerships has welcomed Laura Caldicott as its first specialist pelvic health midwife to address maternal pelvic health issues post-childbirth. This groundbreaking role will see Caldicott lending much-needed support in maternity hospitals throughout Hull, Goole, Grimsby, and Scunthorpe. The NHS has underscored that postnatal pelvic health problems are more prevalent than widely acknowledged, with one in three mothers encountering urinary incontinence three months post-childbirth, and one in twelve showing symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse. Caldicott is resolved to lift the veil of silence enveloping these issues, avowing that individuals have been too embarrassed to discuss them, but she wants to inspire change in this regard. Her appointment symbolises a crucial stride towards promoting candid conversations and enhancing maternal healthcare.
