Lincoln Police Launch Clampdown on Illegal E-Scooter Use

Lincolnshire Police is ramping up efforts to curb unauthorized use of privately owned electric scooters around Lincoln city centre. This follows an increase in complaints from local residents about individuals misusing these scooters in public areas, an act only authorized under a registered rental scheme.

Officials are stressing the need for public understanding, particularly among parents and guardians, regarding the legal requirements for e-scooter operation. Offenders, inclusive of minors, could face charges relating to driving offences. There is a notable risk for young offenders to accumulate penalty points on their ‘ghost licence’, which may impact their future driving records.

The enhanced measures also concentrate on other potential violations like riding on footpaths, failing to adhere to traffic signs, and operating electric scooters while distracted by mobile phones or under the influence of alcohol.
