Lincoln’s E-Scooter Controversy: Eight Riders Face Legal Repercussions

The Lincolnshire Police are making steadfast efforts to tackle the illicit use of personal electric scooters, having seized a number of such vehicles and also begun legal proceedings against eight people. The action was concentrated in Lincoln city centre across two days, Wednesday and Thursday, focusing on individuals using e-scooters without the required insurance cover. By law, although purchasing e-scooters is not restricted, their usage is limited strictly to private property, prohibiting them from being ridden on public roads and pavements. PC Will Cawte underscored the significance of these rules by cautioning that offenders could find points added to their actual driving licences or potential penalties on a ‘ghost licence’, which refers to a licence not yet acquired.
