Enthusiastic traders and customers are celebrating the vibrant reopening of Grimsby’s favourite Top Town Market in its provisional location at Freshney Place. The market, having closed for a £50 million refurbishment project in February, found a renewed home within the old One Beyond store, where the ambience on its inaugural day surpassed all anticipations. Kathy Loudon, the proprietor of K&P Collectables, expressed her exhilaration, highlighting the lively foot traffic and sales boost, which starkly differed from the declining numbers at its previous site. She stated, ‘The former market seemed deserted, but now it’s a fresh beginning with people returning in large numbers.’ The interim relocation is the prelude to North East Lincolnshire Council’s blueprint, pledging a reimagined space comprising a new food hall, market, and cinema by 2027. Customers, happy to see the market back in operation, depicted the venue as ‘bright and spacious,’ with several recognising that they have missed the traders significantly. Though it was not unanimous that the atmosphere mirrored the original site, the communal spirit was strong. Top Town Market, established since 1976, is anticipated to fully settle in its permanent location by spring 2027.
