A Week of Community Spirit, Creativity and Conservation in Lincolnshire

Over the past week, Lincolnshire residents have been treated to a vivid display of community spirit, creativity and conservation. In a unique initiative, South Kesteven has introduced bin lorries emblazoned with health and wellbeing messages from national charities. This approach marks a stirring reminder of the power of community solidarity and emphasises the importance of caring for one another.

Adding to the community vibrancy, local therapist and counsellor, Ross Ayres, has been made laureate of Stamford’s burgeoning poetry scene. His delight at receiving this honour demonstrates the thriving arts and culture scene we are blessed with in our region.

On the community front, Skegness Lifeboats have issued a call to action for dedicated volunteers. Their open evening provides an excellent opportunity for those with a passion for service and the sea, reflecting the enduring spirit of volunteering across our county.

In line with the spring season, Belton House has adopted a ‘No Mow May’ policy, allowing resident wildflowers to bloom undisturbed. Barton Park, after a £120,000 renovation, is also in full bloom, boasting new play equipment much to the joy of local families.

Historic Selby Abbey has received a £1 million restoration grant courtesy of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, a victory for those who cherish Lincolnshire’s rich historical heritage. This generous donation emphasises the critical importance of preserving our landmarks for future generations.

In a fun twist, Lincolnshire farmers have formed a singing group, planning to perform Christmas carols in Lincoln this December, adding a harmonious note to our community spirit.

Closing the week on a poignant note, a local family who experienced the sudden loss of their daughter, Josephine, has launched a campaign aimed at preventing such tragedies. Aiming to screen 100 young individuals within a day, their initiative demonstrates the resilience and collective strength of our community.

From pickleball festivals to conservation concerns, Lincolnshire’s spirit has been on evident display throughout the week, reaffirming its reputation as a county of compassion, resilience, and joy.
