In an attempt to revitalise Grimsby’s town centre, the North East Lincolnshire Council has launched a green initiative, leaving residents delighted. As part of the “Levelling Up Funding,” which was awarded last May, the town has witnessed the installation of new seating areas, colourful plantings, and innovative ‘living walls’. These unique structures attached to buildings not only enhance the visual appeal but also contribute to the enhancement of air quality.
In partnership with Grimsby in Bloom, the council has decorated Victoria Street full of hanging baskets teeming with flowers, generating a more welcoming environment. Their efforts have garnered appreciation from the locals, with resident Janet Bird commenting on how these vibrant plants have made the town more attractive. Christine Ward, an ardent visitor, reiterated this feeling, referring to the changes as a positive development for the area.
Additional upgrades encompass a pop-up garden on West St Mary’s Gate and festoon lighting on Victoria Street. Elaine Atkinson, the chairperson of Grimsby In Bloom, underlined the increase in personal wellbeing brought about by these changes. Councillor Philip Jackson praised the project, stating how it’s playing a key role in Grimsby’s wider regeneration and anticipated new attractions like a fresh cinema and market.
Due to these ongoing eco-friendly endeavours, Grimsby is on the cusp of a lively transformation, signifying an exhilarating new phase for both the town and the broader North East Lincolnshire community.
