BCU Honours Poet Benjamin Zephaniah with Building Dedication

Birmingham City University has honoured the esteemed poet and campaigner, Benjamin Zephaniah, by renaming a primary campus property in his remembrance. Zephaniah, who was born and raised in Handsworth, Birmingham, made significant contributions to poetry, literature, music, and theatre. He sadly passed away in December 2023 at the age of 65. The building, which was previously named University House, will henceforth be known as the Benjamin Zephaniah Building. BCU’s Vice Chancellor David Mba lauded Zephaniah for his continuous support in providing the marginalised parts of society with a platform for expression, and for his role in promoting diverse and inclusive education.
