Lincolnshire Mum Secures Dream Home for Disabled Son

A mother from Lincolnshire has been granted a new council house, which promises to significantly improve the life of her disabled teenage son. The mother, Marie, aged 49, and her 16-year-old son, Sonny, have been on the housing waiting list for West Lindsey District Council (WLDC) for over a year. They are now expecting to move to a more suitable house near Market Rasen, preventing the need for Sonny to be placed into care. Expressing her relief, Marie said, “I was never going to give up. This was the turning point between Sonny passing into care or remaining with family.” WLDC has publicly expressed their pleasure at the beneficial outcome for the family.

Sonny, who experiences multiple health conditions, including a life-shortening metabolic disorder named homocystinuria, visual impairment, learning difficulties, autism, and epilepsy, has been unable to communicate verbally. The new residence will provide necessary adaptations to significantly improve Sonny’s life; these include a ground-floor bedroom and a dedicated wetroom. Presently, Sonny is required to be physically carried up and down stairs, a situation that has left him, in Marie’s words, “like a captive in his own room”.

The council informed Marie that they had found a house for her family on the 6th of May. The family looks forward to a move to their new house by July, a change that is set to significantly enhance Sonny’s day to day living conditions.
