A charity shop in Lincoln experienced significant damage resulting in a loss of “thousands of pounds” following a late-night break-in on Monday. The St Barnabas Hospice shop, situated on Wragby Road, had its entrance door shattered in the incident. The charity’s retail manager, Caroline Peach, expressed her distress and annoyance about the robbery, highlighting that jewellery and a collection box full of cash were taken during the course of the burglary.
“It’s unjustifiable for anyone to endure damage and theft. However, it’s even more disheartening when you’re a charity striving to generate funds to assist local residents, and those same residents commit such a heinous act. It evokes feelings of immense anger, frustration, and sadness not only for those we’re trying to support but also for those who are backing us,” stated Ms Peach. Lincolnshire police department has commenced an investigation regarding the event.
Situated in Lincoln and Grantham, St Barnabas Hospice provides indispensable palliative and end-of-life care services through its two in-patient units. The charity group announced earlier this month that, due to growing financial challenges, it has to downsize the workforce and constrain expenditure. Given these financial difficulties, Ms Peach commented that the implications of the robbery seem all the more severe. She further added, “There’s never an ideal time for such things to happen, but experiencing this, especially when we’ve been sincere and transparent about our financial struggles, is utterly incomprehensible.”
