University of Lincoln Faces No-Confidence Vote Amid Redundancy Concerns

The senior leadership team at the University of Lincoln has been thrust into uncertainty following a vote of no confidence led by the University and College Union (UCU). Dr Owen Clayton, the current chair of the branch, has shed light on the potential for strike action in the future. This upheaval correlates with the University’s declaration in April, stating almost 300 jobs may be jeopardized due to financial strain. Dr Clayton has vocalised anxieties regarding impending cuts potentially impacting the Lincoln International Business School, the History Department, and the Eleanor Glanville Institute. The UCU is encouraging the university’s board of governors to act, aiming to secure a commitment against compulsory redundancies, as a step to ward off further industrial action. In response, the university’s spokesperson amplified the institution’s ongoing strategic planning, even in the face of financial hardship. The spokesperson referenced recent achievements and reiterated the university’s resolve to maintain the delivery of quality education.
