Lincolnshire Councils Call for Action on Taxi Licence ‘Loophole’

Lincolnshire local councils are encouraging the government to examine a legal ambiguity that allows taxis authorised in other areas to run within the county. South Kesteven District Council has noticed a significant rise in the number of taxis permitted in Wolverhampton, creating difficulties for local drivers. The council has made a request to the government to reassess the licensing rules for out-of-district vehicles. There were expressed worries at a recent licensing committee meeting about the complexity of ensuring taxis from outside the county meet local regulations. Council leader Ashley Baxter emphasised the financial pressure local drivers are facing with the heightened competition. According to the City of Wolverhampton Council, they adopt all of the necessary legal licensing practices, and reiterate their guarantee of commitment to protective measures and statutory guidelines.
