Lincolnshire Police Launch Video Call System for Crime Victims

Victims of crime in Lincolnshire can now engage with police officers through video calls, due to a novel system being piloted in East Lindsey. The system allows individuals to provide statements remotely, presenting a more accessible method of interaction without substituting face-to-face meetings. The pioneering video response team, initially operating out of Louth and Gainsborough, aspires to extend its reach to cover the entirety of the county.

The Lincolnshire Police emphasised that this new medium of communication will expedite their interaction with the community while liberating frontline officers to respond to more critical incidents. Chief Inspector Colin Clarkson expressed that the incorporation of such technology enhances the services provided to the public and broadens the capacity for frontline officers, enabling them to respond quicker to incidents requiring physical intervention.

At present, this service is available to crime victims who are over 18 or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Key prerequisites involve having a device such as a smartphone or tablet with video capabilities and an ample internet connection, and making sure the offender is not present during the video interview.
