Residents of the Lincolnshire village of Marton, near Gainsborough, have expressed anger over the lack of use of a newly built school car park. Intended to serve The Marton Academy, the car park was constructed alongside a housing development but currently remains padlocked. It is pending a transfer to Lincolnshire County Council, and subsequently, to the school itself. Local resident, Nicoya Palastanga, brought attention to the daily disruption caused by school parking issues, seeking clarification as to why the car park, which was completed back in February, has yet to be opened. E5 Holding, the developer, confirmed that the car park cost approximately £50,000 to construct and asserted that it could be made operational at short notice. However, this depends on the anticipated council proceedings. Lincolnshire County Council have stated that the transfer could potentially continue for another six months, at which point the decision regarding the opening of the facility will be handed to the school.
