Great Coates Launches Poo Bag Partnership to Tackle Dog Waste

Great Coates, a village in Lincolnshire, has introduced a novel initiative known as the Poo Bag Partnership, in an attempt to address the recurrent issue of dog waste. The venture sees waste bags handed out to dog walkers, promoting responsible pet ownership, with backing from local businesses and community groups.

The North East Lincolnshire Council disclosed that from 2023 to 2024, over 280 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for dog fouling crimes. Councillor Ron Shepherd displayed optimism for an extension of the enterprise, saying, ‘We’re pleased to be cultivating these partnerships throughout all parts of North East Lincolnshire. Though most dog owners act responsibly, it’s important that the minority recognise their obligation in terms of pet care.’ Shepherd called for an array of businesses, institutions and charities to participate in the Poo Bag Partnership in a bid to eradicate this problem within the community.
