Lincolnshire dwellers are being encouraged to participate in a nationwide butterfly count. This exercise aims to evaluate the health of our environment for pollinating insects. Josh Forrester, the ranger for Cleethorpes coastal area, will orchestrate two sessions at Humberston Fitties and Cleethorpes Country Park. Forrester underscores the initiative as a “crucial citizen science project.” This comes in the wake of a notable decrease in butterfly populations since the 1970s, an early alarm bell for potential losses in other wildlife sects. Set for the 18th of July from 10:00 to 12:00 BST, the Humberston Fitties event will precede the Cleethorpes Country Park event, which will be held on the 21st of July at the same times. Lincolnshire inhabitants unable to attend the in-person events may still contribute by observing the number of butterflies in a 15-minute window, including their species, and forwarding their findings to the Big Butterfly Count website.
