Coastguard Urges Caution After Filling Dangerous Hole on Sandilands Beach

The Mablethorpe Coastguard Rescue Team has issued a cautionary statement after discovering a hole approximately 6ft deep on Sandilands beach in Lincolnshire. The urgency was communicated following a report from HM Coastguard Humber on Wednesday prompting an immediate response from the team. Prompt action was taken to fill in the hole to prevent grave injuries and possible entrapment. This event is reminiscent of an incident two years ago at the nearby Anderby Creek. This previous event saw a 14-year-old boy narrowly avoid severe harm from a collapsed hole he was digging. The coastguard wants to highlight the importance for those visiting the beach to remain aware of the risks that can result from digging large holes in the sand.
