Lincolnshire’s Disposable Income Lags Behind National Average in Latest Report

The most recent figures published on the 22nd of July 2025 have provided new understanding into the economic climate of Lincolnshire, uncovering evidence that the local population’s disposable income isn’t as substantial when compared with the rest of the UK. According to the Gross Disposable Household Income (GDHI) figures for 2022, Lincolnshire’s average per capita income is £20,012, which doesn’t match up to the national average.

This figure, characterising the remaining income after taxation, mortgage repayments, and other fixed outgoings, equals only 87.8% of the UK average, indicating a consistent disparity. Delving more into the district level data, Boston is towards the bottom of the range, with a GDHI of £18,332 per person, equating to just 80.4% of the national average. In contrast, residents of North Kesteven are somewhat more financially comfortable, with a GDHI of £20,318 per capita or 89.2% of the UK mean.

Although the Lincolnshire-wide GDHI amounts to £15.527 billion, the range from district to district serves as a reminder of economic diversity within the region. While generally an upward trend can be observed when compared with previous years, there remains substantial progress to be made to align with the rest of the UK.

For the people of Lincolnshire, this disparity results in practical effects such as having lesser disposable income for recreational activities, savings or unplanned expenditures. It prompts an important conversation surrounding how local strategies might more effectively stimulate progression in income.

As the county continues to evolve, it is still unknown how these statistics will alter in the future. Nevertheless, there is optimism in the community, hopeful that forthcoming policies will bridge this monetary chasm to ensure Lincolnshire’s economy continues to flourish.
