Residents living on Douglas Road in Cleethorpes have been left frustrated as bins continue to go uncollected for weeks at a time because parked cars are blocking access for refuse lorry collections. The narrowness of the streets combined with the overstretched parking, particularly near corners, has resulted in a significant hurdle for waste collection services.
Local resident, Stephen Silkstone, has stated that the parked vehicles render it almost impossible for bin lorries to navigate the roads, which results in refuse bins overflowing. In response to the ongoing situation, North East Lincolnshire Council is reviewing potential parking restrictions as a solution to the problem.
Sophia Farren, the councillor for Sidney Sussex ward, champions the plight of the residents and emphasises the need for a community consultation to face head-on the parking challenges which have been intensified due to the conversion of residences into houses of multiple occupation (HMOs).
The council is currently in talks with the affected residents and is exploring legal means to enforce any possible parking restrictions. They are calling on residents to park responsibly, particularly avoiding critical corners on bin collection days, to ensure that waste can be collected as per the schedule.
