North Lincolnshire Council is set to extend its programme of supplying air fryers to pensioners, as part of a scheme to alleviate household expenses. The previous winter saw successful distribution of 6,000 air fryers, funded by a £2.3 million grant obtained from the government’s Household Support Fund. A recent request under the Freedom of Information Act disclosed that more than £650,000 was allocated towards this project. The forthcoming year’s initiative was recently deliberated at a council meeting, where council leader Rob Waltham emphasised the scheme’s popularity and stressed on the imperative of assisting elderly residents amidst the current cost-living crisis. Pensioners, in addition to air fryers, are also eligible to apply for slow-cookers and one-cup kettles. Eligible local inhabitants can apply online or at their community centre, with the distribution set to start from September.
