Plane-spotters Unfazed by New Warning Signs at RAF Coningsby

Aircraft enthusiasts in Lincolnshire remain steadfast in their hobby notwithstanding new signs posted at RAF Coningsby. These signs serve as a warning that any individual caught engaging in aerial photography could face legal repercussions under the National Security Act 2023. The signage has been erected around the base’s boundaries, a favourite location for those fascinated by aircraft.

David Fyfe, an ex-military serviceman, ridiculed the signs, asserting that they were meaningless to genuine aviation aficionados who merely take photographs of planes for their own interest. Regardless, he ceded that the intent behind the signs from the RAF was to discourage people from encroaching too closely.

Anne-Marie Watkins, another aircraft observer, shared the sentiment that while the signs indeed were essential, they are not targeted at deterring true hobbyists. RAF Coningsby is a base renowned for training Typhoon pilots and functioning as a Quick Reaction Alert station. It remains an attraction for aviation lovers who can safely admire aircraft from the authorised viewing spot on Dogdyke Road.

These developments follow a security re-evaluation caused by a previous incident at RAF Brize Norton.
