Two community initiatives in Bottesford, North Lincolnshire, are poised to benefit from a substantial injection of funds designed to improve local sports amenities. A combined total of £320,000 has been awarded in grants to Bottesford Football Club and Bottesford Pavilion. The grants, which originate from North Lincolnshire Council, are part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and fall under the government’s ‘levelling up’ agenda. The council’s leader, Rob Waltham, is fully behind the projects, stating that they will facilitate improved access to a range of sports and community activities for countless local inhabitants.
Bottesford Football Club has plans to channel their £200,000 grant into the modernisation of the indoor gym facilities at the Barrett Steel Stadium situated in Scunthorpe. The club has the responsibility of the support and development of more than 24 teams of players starting from under-seven to senior levels. Inclusive teams have also been developed within the club, such as the Down’s Syndrome team, Special Olympics team and Wildcats for girls. The significant pedigree of the club dates back to its foundation in 1974. Prior achievements of the club include securing a £1.5m grant, which was used to build a floodlit 3G pitch and enhancing seating along with disability access.
Bottesford Pavilion, on the other hand, is set to utilise their £120,000 grant to improve inclusivity by installing new toilets and upgrading to energy-efficient lighting and heating. Councillor John Davison, who is the cabinet member for communities, noted the immense impact of these funds. He highlighted that the support would greatly enhance the experience for the multitude of local people who make use of these facilities on a weekly basis.
