Residents of Lincolnshire are being invited to share their personal stories and keepsakes from the era of Margaret Thatcher as part of Thatcher Fest, a festival commemorating the centenary of Margaret Thatcher’s birth. The Grantham Guildhall Arts Centre is requesting photographs, newspaper articles, and individual anecdotes from the 1980s to feature in an upcoming film. Thatcher Fest begins on 13 October in Grantham, Thatcher’s birthplace, and seeks to examine the history and controversial political backdrop of her term as the UK’s first female Prime Minister. Significant occurrences during her leadership include the privatisation of national industries, the 1984-85 miners’ strike, and the Falklands War.
Councillor Paul Stokes from South Kesteven District Council underscored the relevance of community engagement in producing a film that signifies the diverse perspectives on Thatcher’s influence. He portrayed this as a chance to enjoy vibrant debates, regardless of political stance. Submissions for the film are being accepted through email until 29 September. The festival is also set to host special events such as a drag show starring Matt Tedford as The Iron Lady and a session with former junior health minister Edwina Currie, ensuring an intriguing mix of entertainment and historical contemplation.
