A fascinating weather event, known as a dust devil, has been observed at a Lincolnshire farm. This small whirlwind, visually comparable to a mini tornado, presented an amazing exhibition of aspects of nature’s power. According to the Met Office, this dust-heavy vortex, also colloquially referred to as ‘willy willy,’ spins upwards in the air.
The event was witnessed by Tracy White, who first spotted the climax of the visual display around 16:00 BST on Sunday at her farm located in Asserby, close to Alford. She described her experience, “It appeared as though straw was falling as rain through our window; hence we rushed out to understand what the happenings were. We observed the spiralling wind gathering straw along its trail.”
This rare sighting has definitely provided a surprise element to Tracy and her family’s day, showcasing yet again the distinctiveness and occasional unpredictability of Lincolnshire’s weather patterns.
