The Dolphin Gardens public toilets in Cleethorpes have been subjected to vandalism for the third instance this year, in a concerning series of events. The unsavoury episode, which took place roughly at 03:00 BST on Sunday, 10 August, resulted in substantial damage costing North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) more than £3,000 for repairs. Councillor Hayden Dawkins, the cabinet member for tourism, voiced his dissatisfaction with the event, condemning it as ‘reckless vandalism’ and pondered on the reasons that led to such mayhem. In the act of destruction, one toilet was tipped over, and four sinks were forcefully detached. Onlookers saw a group hastily leaving the location on bikes heading towards St Peter’s Avenue. These regular acts of destruction present a significant hurdle not only for the council but also for local service suppliers who have to periodically replace the defaced equipment. NELC has brought this act of vandalism to the attention of Humberside Police, in a bid to deter future occurrences.
