Rubbish Along A180 Near Barnetby Top Sparks Rat Infestation Concerns

Concerns have been growing among residents living near Barnetby Top due to the continued accumulation of rubbish along the A180 that is attracting rats. Janet and David Blessington from Brigg have discovered disturbing items, including bottles filled with urine and used nappies, in the lay-bys. The discovery comes months after the couple raised the issue during a segment on BBC Look North titled ‘Leave it to Levy’ in March.

Despite claims from North Lincolnshire Council that the areas are cleared weekly, the problem remains unresolved. Ms Blessington has observed an increase in the volume of waste as well as an offensive smell. Mr Blessington is urging for more bins to be provided while Martin Kennedy, a local lorry driver, is calling for all drivers to respect the roadside and keep it clean.

The council has stated that safety considerations have prevented them from conducting extensive clean-ups without first implementing road closures.
