Plans are in place for the construction of a new designer outlet shopping centre along the A1 near Grantham, with the development process set to begin in 2026 and completion anticipated for 2028. The property developer, Rioja Estates, is at the helm of this endeavour. Initially, the outlet was planned for a 2021 opening. The project, representing an investment of £100 million, is estimated to create 137 retail units and provide more than 1,200 new jobs, thereby potentially making a considerable contribution to the area’s economy. Despite the timeline setbacks, Rioja Estates’ Managing Director, Giles Membrey, remains positive that the outlet will become a key tourist attraction in the region. Contrarily, Councillor Richard Davies, who represents Grantham West on the county council, shows reservations about the delays and has publically expressed he would like the site to be utilised by local industrial enterprises as opposed to retail shops.
