Lincoln Man Jailed for Domestic Abuse Against Wife

A resident of Lincoln has received a prison sentence of two years and four months, subsequent to a series of violent instances perpetrated against his recent wife. Lincoln Crown Court heard the case involving 35-year-old Mohammed Ali, who pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour charges, as well as criminal damage. Ali, who resides on High Street, Lincoln, repeatedly subjected his wife to physical assault and intimidation. Account details from the victim, presented by Prosecutor Alice Ibbotson, included incidents of being beaten and threatened, with Ali also allegedly kicking her.

Ali’s escalating violence reportedly originated from his conviction that his wife, who came from Bangladesh in October 2023, did not demonstrate sufficient submission or knowledge about their shared religion.

The court was additionally informed of an episode where Ali caused visible injuries on his wife’s neck and damaged her mobile phone by throwing it against a wall. Ali’s historical criminal record was also brought to light; he was given a 12-month community order in 2015 for offences committed against a former spouse.

Defence solicitor Paul O’Shea referenced the aftermath of Ali’s arrest, elaborating on the loss of his client’s home and the subsequent struggle to maintain his business. Recorder James Bide-Thomas acknowledged the victim’s relative isolation and dependency on Ali when delivering the sentence. Ali had ominously threatened to deport her back to Bangladesh. A restraining order, effective for 10 years, preventing Ali from communicating with his former spouse was also instituted.
