New Patient Concern Service Launched in Lincolnshire Hospitals

Hospitals throughout Lincolnshire, collaborating with facilities in East Yorkshire, have launched a new service permitting families to voice immediate worries about the health of their relatives. As part of the NHS Humber Health Partnership’s adherence to ‘Martha’s rule’, this scheme includes a daily patient survey and an exclusive hotline.

Named in tribute to Martha Mills, this service strives to offer family members and friends the chance to request a second opinion if they spot noticeable shifts in a patient’s condition that have not been sufficiently addressed. Martha, unfortunately, lost her life due to sepsis in 2021.

Dr Kate Wood, chief medical officer at the partnership, urges individuals to apply ‘Martha’s rule’ if they witness significant alterations in patient health that seem to be dismissed. This pioneering service is designed to augment patient comfort and foster improved dialogue between healthcare professionals and families in Lincolnshire.
