Anglian Water to Invest £62.8m in Improvements Following Sewage Spills

Anglian Water has been directed by Ofwat to implement improvements amounting to £62.8m as a consequence of considerable sewage spillage during stormy weather. The imposition emerges from a wider investigation into the practices of the water company, affecting its operations across Lincolnshire and the East of England. Ofwat disclosed that 16% of Anglian Water’s sewage treatment plants failed to have the necessary capacity to treat sewage effectively during times of heavy rainfall, risking pollution to local rivers. Anglian Water, the water services provider in Lincolnshire and other regions, has committed to assign £1bn by 2030 to decrease sewage discharge and strengthen its infrastructure which includes storm tanks and sewage monitoring systems. This financial commitment endeavours to maintain compliance with environmental regulations whilst minimising the impact on local communities. The Chief Executive Officer of Anglian Water, Mark Thurston, recognised the requirement for substantial improvements and has pledged his focus on sustainable solutions.
