A Week of Historic Revelations and Reunions in Lincolnshire!

What a phenomenal week we’ve had, Lincolnshire! Our heritage is a constant cornerstone of unity and pride for us, providing a fresh chance to appreciate our illustrious past in imaginative and invigorating ways this week. The city, along with the broader county, has been positively buzzing, instigated by a succession of historical events that have rekindled our shared nostalgia and invigorated our community spirit.

To start with, Guy Martin revealed a replica of a WW1 tank in Lincoln. A little-known fact is that our treasured Lincoln has a historical role in tank development, a feat which was saluted this week as a World Origin Site. Witnessing the replica tank within our city was like taking a step back in time, acknowledging our pertinent contribution to the world during times of upheaval. As a moving homage, a local sergeant recounted his tale of receiving support on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain Day. His recollections reminded us of the unity and strength showcased by our forebears, traits which we continue to proudly embody today.

Moreover, the awe-inspiring Lancaster Bomber monument at Norton Disney provided a snapshot of the heroic gestures of the Lincolnshire’s RAF crews during the second world war. The aerial views of this majestic piece of art left us all absolutely spellbound.

One of the tear-jerking moments of the week was when Michael Schaffner relayed the tale of his missing US Air Force pilot father, Captain William Schaffner, at RAF Binbrook. This heartwarming reunion with his father’s memories reminded us of the multitude of connections that were formed here during the wartime years.

Our nostalgic trip was exalted further as we luxuriated in the historical grandeur of the Victorian era. The city was teeming with narratives from this captivating epoch, prompting respect and admiration for the elegance, flair, and progressiveness of those times.

Taken together, it’s been a week dedicated to contemplation and acknowledgement of our rich and varied history. Here’s to experiencing many such weeks ahead, Lincolnshire – it’s an absolute delight journeying through history with you all!
