Scopwick Residents Support Speed Limit Adjustments to Enhance Road Safety

Residents of Scopwick, a village located between Lincoln and Sleaford, are showing their support for new proposals aimed at adjusting local speed limits to improve road safety. The proposed plan includes adding 40mph buffer zones at both ends of the B1188 while keeping the current 30mph limit within the confines of the village. Set to be reviewed by the Lincolnshire County Council’s planning committee on Monday, this initiative was first proposed by a local councillor, working alongside the parish council.

Gemma Wilson, who lives in Scopwick, discussed her worries relating to the challenge of safely crossing the road during her daily walks with her dog. “I realise that people may speed through if they’re in a hurry travelling from Lincoln to Sleaford, but that certainly doesn’t justify their actions,” she voiced. “It’s a hazard for those of us who live here.” Another villager, Sophie Polwin, who lives just within the 30mph speed limit area, has expressed her support for the concept of expanding the present 50mph speed limit. “Motorists don’t comply with the existing speed limit,” she elaborated. “As they enter the village, they’re already driving at 50mph and just continue to speed up.”

Despite these supportive voices, the council has received seven objections to the proposal, voicing various concerns. One anonymous resident argued that while the 40mph zones could be effective in some places, drivers may still continue to disregard them. The discussion continues as the village anxiously awaits a verdict that could significantly enhance their road safety.
