Temporary Library to Open in Grimsby’s Freshney Place Amid Repair Works

A temporary library will soon be established in Freshney Place shopping centre in Grimsby amid ongoing renovations at the Grimsby Central Library. The temporary space, situated adjacent to the Community Diagnostic Centre on Baxtergate, will serve the public throughout the renovation period. The Grimsby Central Library was shut down on 28 March due to the risk of water leaks potentially disrupting asbestos present in the structure.

There have been recent council discussions concerning the future of library services in North East Lincolnshire, which have been attended by more than 1,400 local residents through a public consultation process. This revealed considerable opposition to potential modifications, for example the relocation of Cleethorpes Library or the proposed change in the operational status of Waltham Library to a volunteer-based system.

In response to this feedback, the council has resolved to maintain the present location of the Cleethorpes Library and to continue governing the Waltham Library. The reopening of Grimsby Central Library is hinging on an additional consultation, centred on renovation expenses. Moreover, a committee will be formed to review the future of library services in the region.
