Upgraded Parking Systems Set to Ease Lincoln City Centre Congestion

Lincoln Central Car Park is poised for a sweeping transformation set to enhance the parking facility for both local inhabitants and tourists. The project, due to kick off on the 8th of October, includes the implementation of advanced payment systems and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras over a span of two weeks.

Councillor Joshua Wells confirmed that there may be minor disruptions during the installation. However, he assured that the enhancements will ultimately make parking in the city centre more accessible. This initiative has been driven by the recent hike in parking charges, which saw costs increase from 10p to 30p. The increase aims to fund upgrades at Yarborough and Birchwood leisure centres in light of their management firm’s liquidation.

The City of Lincoln Council has pledged a six-figure sum towards the car park renovation, projecting the creation of an extra £1 million by 2030. There has been opposition from some councillors who contend that the increased fees burden motorists. Nonetheless, Council Leader Naomi Twinkle highlighted the necessity to maintain financial stability for the city’s facilities.

The car park, off from Melville Street, will remain open during the upgrades. However, motorists are cautioned to brace for potentially extended waiting times due to lane closures. This article owes its origins to original reporting from www.bbc.com now curated by The Lincoln Post.
