The UK government has announced a significant financial injection for various towns in Lincolnshire, all part of the newly introduced Pride in Place Programme. The initiative aims to rejuvenate local communities, with areas including Gainsborough, Mablethorpe, and Birchwood West in Lincoln listed as recipients. These towns are each set to benefit from £20 million in funding over the coming decade.
Bill Cullen, serving as the interim chief executive of West Lindsey District Council, has lauded the funding, describing it as a “game-changer” for the town of Gainsborough. The funds are earmarked to aid in the revitalisation of local high streets, public parks, and green spaces while also addressing some of the deprivation issues these areas currently face.
Gainsborough has already witnessed several regeneration efforts, notably the construction of a new cinema complex on the site of a former department store. However, Cullen stressed the requirement for ongoing work and improvement in these communities.
As part of this endeavour, local residents will be provided the chance to suggest how the funds can best be used. This ensures changes implemented will be reflective and beneficial to the community’s requirements and desires.
The initiative forms part of a more extensive effort to empower local residents and rejuvenate struggling neighbourhoods across Lincolnshire.
