Lincolnshire Day: The Journey of Our County’s Beloved Flag

Celebrated annually on the 1st of October, Lincolnshire Day is a cherished occasion that brings together our communities together, bound jointly by pride and heritage. Central to the festivities is the renowned Lincolnshire flag, a bold symbol epitomising the soul of our county. Our beloved flag, with its striking red cross, verdant green and azure blue quadrants, and the golden fleur-de-lys, has deep roots intertwined with the region’s diverse history and rich culture. Officially adopted in 2005, the creation of the flag was the outcome of a competition helmed by BBC Radio Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire Life Magazine. The flag dutifully mirrors the landscape and rural roots of the county, with green symbolising the abundant fields, blue the wide-open skies, red the historical links, and the fleur-de-lys acknowledging Lincolnshire’s connections to the city of Lincoln and its renowned cathedral. Year after year, Lincolnshire Day motivates locals to contemplate on our shared past, commemorate our collective achievements, and anticipate our shared future.
