The Spilsby Surgery, which provides medical services to approximately 7,455 registered patients, will reopen its doors this coming Monday after an abrupt and unexpected closure sparked concern among local residents. The abrupt cessation of operations was announced by the NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) on the 29th of September, owing to the fact that GP partners were, for undisclosed reasons, no longer able to provide their usual care services.
From the 6th of October, however, operations at the surgery will commence once more at 09:00 BST, with care to be provided by Lincolnshire and District Medical Services (LADMS) as a replacement provider. The interface states there will be a necessary prioritisation of patients according to their respective clinical needs, in response to an expected surge in demand.
The abrupt closure of the surgery caused particular worry among elderly members of the patient list, sparking anxieties about the accessibility of essential medical services. This followed the removal of the surgery’s partnership from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) registry, the decision was made when partners departed without appropriate notification, leading to a brief interval of uncertainty.
As we move forward, the ICB has offered advice to patients with non-critical concerns, recommending that they make contact with the surgery towards the end of the week. In the meantime, the ICB has teamed up with the Co-op Pharmacy in Spilsby to tackle a significant backlog of prescriptions. For pressing cases of repeat medication, patients are urged to use NHS 111 services and investigate the feasibility of alternative local pharmacy options where they can.
