Lincolnshire Sees Drop in School Exclusions but Concerns Persist

Lincolnshire County Council continues to tackle the persistent issue of school exclusions, despite a recent decrease in the figures. The council’s schools forum reported a reduction in permanent exclusions from 245 in the 2023-24 academic year to 227 in 2024-25. Moreover, there has been a 15% decrease in suspensions, from 4,991 to 4,553. Despite these improvements, the figures remain above the national and regional averages, giving rise to ongoing concerns. According to Kate Capel, the head of service for inclusion, persistent and disruptive behaviour and verbal abuse towards teachers are the primary causes of these exclusions. To address these problems, ongoing efforts are in place at 47 schools across the region. The strategies being implemented are focused on preventing these incidents and increasing the availability of alternative provisions. An update on the progress made in handling these issues is set to be presented by the council at their upcoming meeting.
