The Lightwaves festival is set to illuminate parts of the Lincolnshire coast in a captivating celebration of creativity and community spirit. The vibrant event will commence in Chapel St Leonards on Friday and the festivities will continue in Sutton on Sea on Saturday. The festival promises a unique experience with some of the highlights set to include illuminated art, live performances, and storytelling. It is a collaborative effort organised by SessionArts, involving local artists, schools, and community groups, who will all be coming together to celebrate via a visually stunning extravaganza.
Bruce Knight, the festival’s director, describes the event as a brilliant chance to bring together artists and communities to explore creativity. Starting at 18:00 BST on Friday, Chapel St Leonards will host an enchanting fire garden installation alongside an interactive UV fish tank sited at the North Sea Observatory. Additionally, a self-led walk along the beachside path will allow festival-goers to add to the enchanting sight with their own lights.
On Saturday, Sutton on Sea will transform its high street into an exciting corridor teeming with light and activity. The evening will feature illuminated installations, digital art, and live performances, peaking with a lantern parade led by schoolchildren and community groups at 18:30. To prepare for this grand event, art creators from Lumo Workshop, Nadya Monfrinoli and Lou Jones, are set to hold lantern-making workshops at local primary schools and public sessions at the Seaview Colonnade and the Methodist Church.
This free event, backed by various councils, offers an unforgettable celebration for both locals and visitors, and will serve as a marvellous showcase of Lincolnshire’s rich and varied cultural heritage.
