Councillors from the North East Lincolnshire ward of East Marsh are calling on Anglian Water to implement a far-reaching evaluation of the water network. This demand comes in response to several instances of flooding occurring in the region. The Freeman Street area in Grimsby has experienced three flood events in slightly over a year, with the latest incident taking place on 28th October.
Councillor Stephen Beasant expressed grave concerns regarding the overarching issue, asserting that the water network across East Marsh is failing systematically. A ruptured water pipe, which was a different one compared to previous incidents, was determined as the source of the latest flooding.
Three councillors, Nicola Aisthorpe, Steve Beasant, and Loyd Emmerson, have requested a review that will span the entire borough, a budgetary allocation to facilitate the replacement of ageing pipes, and consistent updates on problems with the network. The council has also served legal notices to Anglian Water, necessitating immediate repairs and promoting strategic long-term planning for East Marsh and North East Lincolnshire.
