Scunthorpe United Player Thanks Fans After Train Stabbing Incident

Jonathan Gjoshe, a football player for Scunthorpe United, has publicly thanked his fans following his injury during a stabbing incident which took place on a train to London. Despite sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, Gjoshe expressed his appreciation for the support and monetary contributions made by fans towards a fundraiser, set up to aid his recovery. The fundraising initiative has successfully raised £4,000, donated by more than 240 individuals.

Gjoshe offered his thanks saying, “I wish to express my gratitude to the staff, my team mates, and all those who sent kind messages my way. I am also incredibly thankful to every fan, as well as all individuals who have donated to the fundraiser. Your support has been overwhelming.”

The fundraiser was started by Matt Ellis, known for the Iron Bru podcast. Ellis particularly commended the solidarity displayed by not just the Scunthorpe United fans, but also the extended football community as a whole. The fundraising pool is designated to compensate for medical care, travel expenses, and loss of earnings during Gjoshe’s recovery period.

Following his surgery, Gjoshe, aged 22, has been released from the hospital and is currently recuperating at home. His full recovery is highly expected.

As a result of the incident, 32 year-old Anthony Williams has been charged and brought in for a preliminary hearing at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court. He is set to make a subsequent appearance at the Cambridge Crown Court.
