Thousands of individuals convened throughout Lincolnshire to pay homage to the armed forces through moving parades and services on Remembrance Sunday. A congregation near 2,000 strong joined the Bishop of Lincoln, the Right Reverend Stephen Conway at Lincoln Cathedral. Here, he imparted a message highlighting the supremacy of love. The International Bomber Command Centre held its yearly service, with attendance surpassing 1,000, and celebrated the memory of veterans through a roll of honour.
Among the attendees at the cathedral service was Geoff Mitchell, an ex-Parachute Regiment member. Mitchell discussed his family’s military heritage and emphasised the significance of perpetual remembrance. Julian Free, a veteran with 31 years of service in the Army, reminisced about the camaraderie and losses experienced throughout his military career.
Nick Startup, Wing Commander from RAF Coningsby, outlined the emotional significance of the commemoration and accentuated the continued protection offered by local RAF personnel. The event saw wide participation from the community which included 750 cadets from the Lincoln Army Cadet Force. These cadets participated in countywide ceremonies, further highlighting the importance of remembrance and active citizenship.
