In an effort to motivate more young women to participate in sports, Sleaford Town Juniors, a football club based in Lincolnshire, has expressed its support for a campaign advocating free sports bras in secondary schools. The campaign, initiated by Rosie Halsall, a former team GB roller derby skater, seeks to eliminate financial challenges that deter girls from involving themselves in physical activities. 18-year-old Miss Halsall, who hails from East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, points out the discomfort and health risks when not wearing appropriate sports bras during physical exercise. Sleaford Town Juniors, which is already in the practice of providing free sanitary items to its female members, acknowledges the importance of this movement. John Williams, who co-ordinates the girls’ teams, stresses that ill-fitting sports bras could lead to imbalances and injuries, which in turn could impact girls’ performance and long-term well-being. By supporting the provision of free sports bras, the club is hopeful of inspiring more young girls in Lincolnshire to take up sports, thus advocating for a healthier lifestyle from an early age.
