Peter Gale, aged 51, and a Morris dancer from Market Deeping, has successfully fundraised £1,400 for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough. He achieved this admirable feat by completing a 10km charity hike cloaked in a bright tatter coat. The coat, a touching tribute to his late mother who had a hand in its creation, added a poignant touch to his endeavour.
The charity hike had originally been organised as a response to Storm Amy’s forced cancellation of the Sue Ryder Starlight Hike, which was slated to take place at Ferry Meadows. Anticipations were high for this original event, which expected to unite more than 400 participating walkers. However, the inclement weather did not deter kind-hearted supporters like Mr Gale from continuing their fundraising initiatives, thereby contributing to the charitable hospice’s ongoing mission.
Mr Gale’s mother was compassionately cared for by the hospice during her last few months. She had initially intended to volunteer her sewing skills to benefit the hospice but her plans were thwarted due to her ill health. To commemorate her, Mr Gale wore the coat they jointly produced, and stated, ‘When the opportunity arose to fundraise for the hospice that took such great care of her, I felt it was fitting to conduct the walk in her memory.’
