Staff at Epworth Swimming Pool are urgently appealing for monetary assistance due to escalating utility and operational costs. The South Axholme Community Swimming Pool Association manages the facility which has been a community mainstay since 1996. However, they now face a formidable financial situation, with yearly electricity expenses reaching £45,000. Rob Jenkins, the manager and trustee, emphasises the importance of long-term financial solutions to ensure the pool’s survival.
Despite implementing energy conservation measures such as installing 88 solar panels and a ground-source heat pump, the pool still grapples with increased electricity and employment expenses. Dedicated local users, including Christine Petch and Daphne Brown, both 68 years old, are motivating more locals to help support this ‘tremendous facility’. The location has served as a social and physical wellness centre for many years.
Given the rising cost of living, public backing becomes pivotal in safeguarding the pool from potential closure. Mr. Jenkins encourages inhabitants to re-engage and support the pool to guarantee its availability for upcoming generations.
