The community diagnostic centres (CDCs) in Skegness and Lincoln have marked a significant achievement, having reached a patient milestone of 100,000 since first opening in late 2024. Managed by United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospital Trust, these centres conduct various critical services such as CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, and blood tests and play a vital role in alleviating pressure on local hospitals.
Alistair Nelson from the Trust lauded the centres as national models following their recognition as the Gold National CDC of the Year at the Building Better Healthcare Awards 2025. ‘We’ve been receiving fantastic feedback from patients,’ said Mr Nelson, highlighting the crucial role these centres play in reducing the distance patients need to travel for care, such as the 40-mile round trip to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital.
The Skegness centre alone has serviced 30,000 patients, while the Lincoln centre has handled 70,000. These centres, complete with free parking and strategic locations, are designed to prioritise patient convenience. Progress is underway for a new CDC in Boston, with a projected opening by the end of March 2026, which is set to provide even greater accessibility to healthcare in the region.
