A groundbreaking keyhole surgical procedure for spinal treatments is set to be unveiled at Hull Royal Infirmary, largely due to the fundraising determination of a family from Lincolnshire. Ruth and Tony Knowles, hailing from Sutton on Sea, have raised over £176,000 in honour of their daughter Emma-Jayne, who tragically passed away from a brain tumour shortly before her 23rd birthday. This significant donation, along with the assistance of the independent hospital charity WISHH, has allowed the NHS Humber Health Partnership to introduce state-of-the-art equipment for endoscopic spinal surgery. Because of the less invasive approach, the majority of patients are able to return home the same day of the surgery. The tireless fundraising work of Emma-Jayne’s family continues to make an impact, with Hull’s neurological surgical team now better able to treat ailments like herniated discs and spinal stenosis. The project serves to underscore the importance of local support and community contributions in driving medical advances forward.
