Urgent Repairs Needed for Lincolnshire Roads Facing Rapid Deterioration

Lincolnshire County Council has identified a ‘significant risk of rapid deterioration’ on ten roads across the county if they remain unrepaired. Key Lincoln routes such as Yarborough Road are among those highlighted for immediate attention. A report has underlined the necessity to address this urgently to stop these roads from hitting a ‘tipping point’ which would speed up their decline. Though patch repairs can function as a short-term solution, they can end up costing more than comprehensive measures. The projected cost for the essential repairs is approximately £12 million, and a ruling on funds from the 2026/27 budget is anticipated to be determined by the council’s highways committee next week.

Roads including the A15 at Folkingham, A17 Wigtoft Bypass, and A153 at Anwick are particularly at risk. Without prompt intervention, the report warns that repair costs could dramatically increase, causing more traffic disruptions and safety issues. The suggested repairs aim to extend the lifespan of these roads for a period of up to 20 years, utilising specific strategies for each location. Other impacted areas include the university roundabout and Ropewalk in Lincoln and roads in surrounding regions of Grantham, Colsterworth, Uffington, Sleaford, Anwick, and Stamford. If costs rise, some projects might be postponed till the following year for priority deliberation, but this will not affect major projects like the North Hykeham Relief Road, which is slated to start next year.
