Title: Ulceby Parents Pursue Legal Proceedings Following Years of Missed Deafness Diagnosis for Their Son
Revised Content:
Kirstie and Gavin, from Ulceby, are taking legal action against the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust after their son’s profound deafness went undiagnosed for several years. Their son Tommie, who is now ten, wasn’t administered with the correct diagnosis until he was three and a half years old. Multiple times, the parents raised concerns about their child’s health which were dismissed as developmental delays, justified on the grounds of Tommie’s preterm delivery at 29 weeks. Multiple hearing tests conducted by the trust’s specialists repeatedly failed to correctly identify his condition. Hudgell Solicitors, the family’s legal representatives, have stated that it was only after the involvement of a private specialist that Tommie was provided with cochlear implants, causing a life-changing transformation, according to his mother. The trust has extended its apology, however, due to legal restrictions, it is unable to discuss individual cases.
An audit by the British Academy of Audiology conducted earlier this year exposed a range of serious shortcomings within the trust’s audiology departments, including the mishandling of newborn hearing tests. Consequently, a thorough investigation and recall of potentially affected children have been initiated. NHS England has verified the implementation of required improvements.
